When a person takes his or her own life, it is one of the most tragic things in the world. And when it's a celebrity that everyone looks up to, it becomes even more confusing and difficult to comprehend. When these people who you think have it all suddenly commit something so out of the ordinary, it gives us ordinary people a lot more reason for reflection. In the end it's true that a lot of the world's best and brightest human beings just leave us too soon.
From famous musicians, artists, thespians to political figures, it's a wonder why so many of these talented people took that fateful plunge. It makes us ruminate on what they saw in those dark, final days, what they felt and what caused them to lose all hope of redemption in this world. It give us a glimpse into everything that's good in humanity and how sometimes all of the bad in the world can swallow it. Here are a few good examples:
* Kurt Cobain: The great pioneer of grunge and a genuinely miserable man called Kurt Cobain ended it all with a shotgun in 1994. He had once claimed to have suicide genes in his body, based on all the family members he had who already passed away from such a fate. And on April 5th of that year, he unfortunately justified this claim. His lyrics and music stand as testimony to his troubled soul... who was heard by all but sadly listened to by nobody.
* Sylvia Plath: The poet and academic who lived a hard life from which literary works like 'Daddy' and 'The Bell Jar' stand as proof, went into the darkness with a little help from an oven and some gas. It was a hard life for Plath, who in spite of academic success and an astounding literary precociousness had to deal with a broken marriage and her own personal fragility.
* Adolf Hitler: Though not exactly beloved of many, Adolf Hitler is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in recent history and one that also fell by taking his own life. Before he could be put to justice, he put himself to rest with the help of both a gun and a cyanide tablet, as the Russian Red Army charged across Nazi Germany.
* Jonathan Brandis: American film and television star Jonathan Brandis sadly used a nylon rope to hang himself after a night out with friends. They all tried reviving him but to no avail.
